Best Deals Magazine

Best Deals Magazine

Description:
While employed for Media Management LLC. I was tasked with building a website for their flagship product Best Deals Magazine. It had to be easy to use, simple to update, and it needed an intuitive and friendly way to show each page in the weekly magazine. Knowing the intended user base, I created the website using the simplest HTML and CSS and avoided most JavaScript to maximize the compatibility with old browsers. While the website was optimized to work with older browsers, it was not to feel old. I laid out the page list by car lot, and given each lot a snappy preloaded rollover preview. Upon choosing a lot, the user is provided with an enlarged image of the same page as from the magazine. Along with an address, phone number, and a map to the car lot.

From Media Management's side, they had a batch script that ripped the pages from a supplied PDF file and re-sized the pages to thumbnails. They just had to correctly name each page for the car lot, update the address and map link if it changed since the previous week within a text file, then upload the text file and the images to their website. It takes in total 20 minutes to update.

The website included articles from the magazine, an order form for starting a subscription, and a forum for the members to mingle. My greatest and most unique signature on this website is the wolf head logo that's used. The Wolf Pack Edge Website is no longer run by Media Management and has moved to another content manager, but they are still using the same logo.
